Topic: Humans are basically selfish. Do you agree or disagree?

There is a general opinion that people are very self-centered. I disagree with this statement/notion because it is human nature to help people and they believe in karma that is if they help others then others will help them.

To initiate, humans basically feel sympathetic towards each other, hence if someone wants help, they get involved. They are also very emotional and genuinely feel bad when other people are in trouble. Many people even go out of their way to help each other. For example, during the first wave of the Covid pandemic, when the country was going through a complete lockdown, the hearts of thousands of Indians were touched by the images of migrant labourers walking for hundreds of kilometers to reach their villages, because there was no work in the cities. They didn't have any money to continue to live in the cities anymore. So, in spite of the threat of Covid, many people went to the highways to distribute food and water to these labourers, proving that they are not selfish.

Secondly, many people believe that if they selflessly help other people then they will also get help during their time of need, that is Karma, what goes around comes around. For this reason, people often get out of their comfort zone to help others who are in need. For example: Nowadays, many people are living in nuclear families, far away from their homes. Hence, they dont have family members to support them during crisis situations like sudden illness, death and so on. But, often, their neighbors come forward and cook food for them or take them to the doctor.

In conclusion, it is unfair to say that the humans are selfish as we have seen them help each other on several occasions.
