Topic: Bullying is a big problem in many schools. What do you think are the causes of this? What solutions can you suggest? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Child psychologists and school counsellors frequently report incidents of school children traumatized due to bullying by their classmates. I perceive the cause could be insecure children who feel the need to be in control. A possible solution could be proper vigilance in schools to identify such children and provide counselling or therapy to help them overcome their urge to bully.

To initiate, a bully is a person who habitually seeks to harm or intimidate those whom they perceive as vulnerable. Children, especially the ones who may be shorter in height than their peers or may be obese or dark skinned are often taunted by bigger kids. This generally happens because picking on someone who seems emotionally or physically weaker might provide the bully with a feeling of being more important, popular, or in control. For instance, one often hears of tall, sturdy, senior kids snatching the tiffin boxes of smaller children and eating their food while others look on and laugh.

A possible solution to this serious social issue could be for teachers to keep a watch during recess, and report the bullying to the tormentor’s parents. The parents in turn must firmly convey that bullying is not right and can result in serious consequences at school if it continues. Both parents and school counsellors must also try to identify the root cause that prompted the child to become a bully and help them manage strong emotions like anger, frustration, or insecurity.

Stating the compendium, parents and teachers must take bullying seriously and deal with it as fast as possible. It is often a psychological issue hence proper counselling is required instead of just punishing the bully as it may aggravate his urges. (282 words)
