Prompt

Are famous people treated unfairly by the media? Should they be given more privacy, or is the price of their fame an invasion into their private life? Discuss both these views and give your own opinion. Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

There is an ongoing debate about whether celebrities are treated unfairly by the media and therefore deserve greater privacy, or whether intense public scrutiny is an inevitable consequence of fame. While some argue that famous individuals are entitled to a private life, others believe that their popularity comes at the cost of constant media attention. I strongly believe that celebrities should be granted greater privacy despite their public status.

On the one hand, it is undeniable that there is a high demand for exclusive photographs and personal information about celebrities, which drives paparazzi and media outlets to closely follow them. However, celebrities are human beings with personal lives, emotions, and challenges that they may wish to keep away from the public eye. Constant intrusion can lead to significant stress and negatively impact their mental well-being. Therefore, it is essential to respect their boundaries and allow them the space they need. For instance, Indian cricketer Virat Kohli reportedly chose to spend time abroad due to the lack of privacy and continuous media interference in his personal life, despite repeated requests for space.

On the other hand, some argue that celebrities owe their success to their fans and the media, and therefore cannot completely avoid public attention. Fans play a crucial role in shaping the careers of actors, musicians, and sports personalities by supporting their work and contributing to their financial success. As a result, it is often argued that public curiosity about their personal lives is justified. For example, Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan frequently interacts with his fans and makes public appearances outside his residence, which helps maintain his popularity and connection with his audience.

Nevertheless, this does not justify excessive intrusion into their private lives. While a certain level of public engagement is expected, harassment, stalking, or invasion of family privacy—especially involving children—should not be tolerated.

In conclusion, although fame inevitably attracts public attention, celebrities should not be subjected to relentless media intrusion. They deserve a reasonable degree of privacy, and it is important for both the media and the public to respect these boundaries.
