Topic: In many countries, people are consuming more sugar-based drinks than before. Why is this happening, and what could be done to reduce sugary drink consumption?

It is being noticed in several nations that more and more people prefer to drink sugary soft drinks today, compared to the past. I think this is because of lots of advertisements of these drinks. It can be reduced by the government insisting on the sugar levels in these drinks being properly displayed on the drink.

To start with, most of these drinks are very tasty, and they are advertised in such a manner that people feel if they consume such drinks, they will get more energy, or they will become sharper or smarter. Many advertisements also convey the message of looking cool when people drink these soft drinks. For example, a popular Bollywood actor appears in the ad for the soft drink String and when he drinks it, current flows through his body.

Further, to stop this, the government needs to create awareness about the harmful effects of these drinks due to the excessive sugar content in these drinks. They must also insist on these companies writing the sugar level in big, clear letters on the drink, like they do in the case of cigarettes or tobacco, where they have insisted on pictures of people with cancer.

In conclusion, we are living in a very fast world today, where we don’t have time to even think about what we are eating or drinking. Many times, in a hurry, we drink soft drinks without realising the amount of sugar in it. We along with the government must try to stop doing so. (252 words)
