Topic: These days more and more people spend their free time doing dangerous activities. Why is this happening? Are there more positive or negative effects to this trend?

It is being noticed lately that people have developed a tendency to indulge in risky actions or sports. Often its social media that’s urging them to do so. I opine that such acts can lead to negative consequences in the form of loss of life or a limb.

To initiate, social media, especially Instagram reels has resulted in laymen seeking their 20 seconds of fame. Hence, there are many wannabes who try to film themselves as they engage in absolutely perilous acts. There are also several videos that encourage people to perform dangerous acts like choking themselves till they blackout, only to experience the adrenaline rush when they regain consciousness. Teenagers and children as young as 6 and 8 years old are trying out this stunt because they are bored. Further, these videos and games encourage the children to film themselves while they choke and upload the video. These kids get an additional rush upon gaining consciousness and seeing the number of likes and comments on their videos.

I vehemently claim that this is a negative development because several people and kids have lost their lives. Recently, an eight-year-old boy helplessly watched his six-year-old sister choke to death while filming herself. There was another instance when a boy decided to take a ride on the highway in his new BMW along with two friends. They live streamed the drive on Facebook as they increased the car’s speed from 120 to 130 and finally when the car was at a speed of 240, it rammed into a truck and the boys were instantly killed.

To recapitulate, it’s the need for thrill as well as the evil influence of social media that is driving people to indulge in dangerous acts, which are often fatal. (292 words).
