Topic: These days, more fathers stay at home and take care of their children while mothers go out to work. What could be the reason for this? Do you think this is a positive or a negative development?

The change in traditional gender roles is evident in today’s modern society, with many fathers becoming homemakers and caregivers to their children, and mothers’ breadwinners. One of the major reasons for this is women are far more educated today and expect to be recognized for their competence outside their homes. I think this is a positive development because it is not fair to confine a capable and intelligent lady to the house.

To initiate, fathers today are a product of a new society where people don’t get married just because they have to and only the married lady has to compromise after a child is born. New parents take all factors into consideration including planning for a child and many fathers voluntarily decide to give up their jobs to take care of the child so that the mother can continue with her career. Sometimes this happens because the lady is earning more than the man, but often, it is a gallant gesture from the man’s side because he wants his wife to be respected for being more than a wife and a mother.

Further, I opine that it is a positive development because a woman should not be forced to give up her career just because she is married and has children. The choice should be hers to work or not and it takes a real strong man to shed his ‘male ego’ and openly declare that his wife is a working professional while he is a ‘stay-at-home’ dad. Such situations only reflect progress.

To recapitulate, we are definitely moving towards a more progressive society where both genders have the freedom to choose the life they want. It is a very good thing because married women are no longer stereotyped into only being wives, mothers or homemakers. (298 words).
