Topic: Are famous people treated unfairly by the media? Should they be given more privacy, or is the price of their fame an invasion into their private life? Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

In the wake of Princess Diana’s death while trying to escape the paparazzi, many have raised the question as to whether celebrities are being hounded by the media? There have also been long drawn debates as to whether they should be given more privacy as it is their right or must they accept the cost of their stardom which is having the press follow and report each and every action of theirs? I favor the former as celebrities deserve a break from being the cynosure of the public.

To initiate, its basically the gossip hungry public that fuel the paparazzi (a freelance photographer who follows the celebrities to click photos of them) and tabloids into only focusing on the private lives of famous film stars, cricketers and so on. Hence, the paparazzi follow a famous movie star to a night club, just to get the first photo of their clothes or their date. Such photos generally sell for thousands of rupees/dollars. Well, many famous personalities have taken this invasion of their privacy in their stride and chalk it down to the price they have to pay for being successful. The photos are in a way free publicity for them.

On the flipside though, not every celebrity is able to shrug aside the media hounding and it psychologically affects them. For example, the famous Hollywood actress/singer Brittany Spears couldn´t handle the constant media attention and became an alcoholic. For these reasons, many, including myself are of the opinion that celebrities deserve their privacy. They too are humans and need to be left alone to deal with the hardships of life that come their way.

To recapitulate, a celebrity has certainly worked hard to attain fame and the price of that shouldn´t be the media and public monitoring each and every move of theirs. They need and deserve to be left alone. (310 words).
